propane dealersDear Friends,

Doesn’t it seem like extreme weather events are becoming the norm? First, there were last winter’s record snows; over the summer came a hurricane, a tropical storm and even an earthquake. Then, right before Halloween, Mother Nature surprised all of us with a big snow storm. That was certainly a trick and not a treat.

The heavy snow brought down trees and power lines, closed roads and knocked out power for thousands (it also obstructed the fuel tanks of many of our customers). Fortunately, the power in our office was restored within a day, allowing us to keep our operation running at full steam. But many of our customers were in the dark for days. My own home and those of our employees were affected too.

During this time, we did our best to meet the high demand for fuel deliveries and service. Our team worked seven days a week to help our customers. Some ran out of propane faster than normal because they used generators for backup power and gas fireplaces for heat. In many of these cases, a larger tank may have prevented a run-out. (Please contact us if you would like to upgrade to a larger tank.)

I would like to personally thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. I know that you rely on us to keep your family safe, warm and comfortable through all kinds of weather, and we take this responsibility very seriously.

You can depend on Rural Gas to do our best and be there for you when it matters the most — regardless of the next trick Mother Nature plays on us.

Warmly,

Richard Rowan

Some of you have asked us about ads you’ve seen with super-low prices for propane. So what’s behind these “great deals”?

The truth is, this is a classic bait-and-switch tactic. Big companies can afford to “swallow” the cost of a super-low introductory price — up to a point. To cover these discounts, they charge their current customers at least 10¢ -15¢ more per gallon!

Once you sign on the dotted line and the introductory period ends, these companies step up your price (hoping you won’t notice) until you’re paying much more than you would with Rural. (See related article, “don’t get bluffed,” on page 3.)

We don’t play these games. Rural Gas prices are always fair and competitive, whether you use propane solely for cooking or for heating your entire home. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

When Jamie Grenier purchased a home in Trumbull a few years ago, he
knew something had to be done about the oil boiler:

“It was an original, dating back to the 1970s, and I was burning through about 200 gallons of oil every month during the winter.”

Jamie decided his best bet, for both savings and comfort, was to remove the boiler and install ductwork in his home. This allowed him to install two new propane gas furnaces as well
as a new central air conditioning system.

Jamie then turned to us to install his propane tank and put in all the required gas lines.

“Everything has worked out well. My home is comfortable and I’m saving a lot of money on heating. I’m only using about 75 or 80 gallons of propane each month.”

Q: How can I make sure I always have enough propane to run my generator?

A: We recommend filling your tank after you stop using the generator so you’ll have plenty of fuel when you need to run the generator again. For an extended power outage, check your fuel gauge from time to time. Most residential generators use about 1.5 gallons of propane per hour. (Check the owner’s manual for the usage rate for your generator.)

Q: When should I call for more fuel?

A: Call when the fuel gauge reads about 40%.
We need 24 to 48 hours’ notice to refill your tank.

Make the switch and save BIG

Our customers are thrilled after we’ve helped them convert their heating system from oil to propane. And why not? Right now, the price of propane is nearly $1 per gallon lower than heating oil!
